Symantec BackupExec: A brand new cleaning tape reports an error "Cleaning Media has expired"

According to my previous sharing, a cleaning tape can be use up to 50 times depending on the type of the cleaning tape (LTO, SDLT & etc) that you have.

However, you may encounter a 'funny' error that system will prompt you 'Cleaning Media has expired' error message when you putting in a brand new cleaning tape.

Solution:

Navigate to the Media tab on the Backup Exec (tm) console and delete the cleaning media from All Media.

Run the inventory of the slot again.

The number of cleanings performed will show up as 1 now and the cleaning media can be used until theMaximum number of cleanings.
